So recently, my fire for writing is drawn from my disdain with the current state of hip hop music. Everything has become so club driven and watered down that nobody even listens to the words anymore. I no longer listen to the music stations I grew up on. I listen to Tom Petty now. I listen to classic rock and contemporary pop music now!!! That’s crazy to me. There are still a few artists out there who can really hold my ear in the rap game, but most of them are at the twilight of their respective careers. My hope is that eventually we’ll get back to positive messages and story telling, not just glamorized stereotypes that are played out beyond measure. Hip hop should require more; and I’ll be listening for the day that it does.
